Biographical Information[edit]

Shortstop Tommy Whiteman played in the Houston Astros minor league system from 2000 to 2005 and the Colorado Rockies system in 2006. He was originally taken by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 6th round of the 1998 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of pitcher Bobby Madritsch, but opted not to sign. He did sign after being taken by the Astros in the 6th round of the 2000 amateur draft, a couple picks after infielder Chris Basak.

After a ho-hum 2000, Whiteman hit .316/.377/.560 with 19 home runs, 58 RBI and 17 stolen bases between two clubs in 2001. He never again had double digit stolen bases, but reached that milestone in home runs in 2002 (10 dingers) and 2003 (13). He reached Triple A for the first time in 2004, slashing .276/.336/.337 in 25 games for the New Orleans Zephyrs; he hit .320/.369/.437 on the year as a whole. After a down year in 2005, he joined the Rockies system for 2006, where he hit .163 in 147 Triple A at-bats.

Overall, Whiteman hit .270/.331/.404 with 59 home runs, 310 RBI and 45 stolen bases in 700 games over 7 seasons.
