Biographical Information[edit]
Tomás Guzmán was a catcher for the Nicaraguan national team. He was 3 for 12 in the 1983 Pan American Games, as the backup catcher to Cruz Ulloa. He hit .241/.313/.517 in the 1984 Amateur World Series, while throwing out 7 of 15 attempted base-stealers; he led Nicaragua's batters in OPS. He played for Nicaragua in the 1984 Olympics and 1985 Intercontinental Cup. When Nicaragua won the 1986 Central American Games, he led the team with 3 home runs and his 8 RBI tied Pablo Juarez for the lead. He was only 4 for 34 in the 1987 Pan American Games. In the 1988 Baseball World Cup, he hit only .162/.184/.189 and allowed 14 steals in 17 tries. He had only two runs and one RBI in 10 games.
He hit .285/.350/.447 with 87 homers, 381 runs and 427 RBI in 814 games in Nicaragua's amateur league from 1980-1995.
