Biographical Information[edit]
Tom Yewcic was signed by the Detroit Tigers in 1954 and came up with them for one game in 1957. However, he had more success in the American Football League from 1961-1966.
He was a two-sport athlete at Michigan State College, serving as quarterback in the Rose Bowl Game. After his baseball days, he played a season in the Canadian Football League before he became a member of the Boston Patriots of the old AFL. He played quarterback and punted for the Patriots and sometimes even played flanker and wide receiver. In baseball he was named the College World Series Most Outstanding Player in 1954, even though Michigan State was eliminated at the semi-final stage.
After his playing days, he was a college coach and then went back to the Patriots as an assistant coach. As of December 2006, he was a partner in a surgical supply company.
