Biographical Information[edit]
Tom Ruane was a baseball researcher and member of the Society for American Baseball Research. He was a member of the board of Retrosheet, the project which compiles play-by-play accounts of all major league baseball games that have been played. In particular, he was responsible for creating its website which made the data easily available to researchers and has proved a boon to them.
He was an active member of various SABR research committee and received the "Bob Davids Award", its highest honor, in 2009. In 2016 he received another important distinction, the Henry Chadwick Award.
In civilian life, he was a programmer working for IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was also a writer, publishing a number of short stories in various journals and magazines.
