Biographical Information[edit]
Utilityman Tom Roberts played in the Boston Red Sox system from 1958 to 1960 and in the St. Louis Cardinals system in 1967. He slashed .302/.418/.474 with 7 home runs, 46 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 55 walks (to 40 strikeouts) in 81 games for the Waterloo Hawks his first year, then .271/.408/.488 with 15 home runs, 84 RBI and 86 walks (55 Ks) in 109 games between two clubs in 1959. He slipped to a .207 average in 1960. After not playing for the better part of a decade, he returned briefly with the Modesto Reds of the Cardinals system in 1967, hitting .286 in 14 at-bats. Overall, he batted .260/.389/.438 with 30 home runs, 178 RBI, 35 strikeouts, 201 walks and 158 strikeouts in 286 games.
He became a scout for the Chicago White Sox in the mid-1980s, signing Kurt Brown and Adam Peterson. He also scouted for the San Diego Padres.
