Biographical Information[edit]

Tom Ravashiere began working as a minor league umpire in the PONY League in 1955 and 1956. He was already well in his 30s at the time, had served in the United States Navy during World War II and had been to college, so he was not the typical rookie umpire working in the lower minors. He was in the International League in 1957 and in the Eastern League in 1959 and 1960. He returned to the International League in 1961 and stayed there until 1970, having himself a nice career even though he never got the call to the majors. For that, he would need to await the umpires' strike that took place at the start of the 1979 season. He was hired as a replacement umpire by the American League and worked 7 games, all of them at Tiger Stadium in Detroit, MI. He was the home plate umpire for three of these.
