Biographical Information[edit]
Tom Poorman played six seasons in the majors. In his prime, he hit approximately as well in the National League as he did in the American Association. He led the Association in triples in 1887.
Poorman was a two-way player as a rookie in 1880, getting into roughly as many games as a pitcher as he did as a fielder, but after that was primarily a fielder.
He was not in the majors from 1881-83. The book Baseball in Toledo has a photo of the 1883 Toledo team which won the Northwestern League championship, and Poorman is in the front row.
He was with Williamsport in 1897.
