Biographical Information[edit]
Tom Mulcahy, although he never played in the majors, is noted for a number of reasons. First, as a star from Gonzaga University, he was signed to a professional baseball contract by fellow Gonzagan Bing Crosby. Second, he was Tommy Lasorda's batting practice pitcher when Tommy managed the Spokane Indians. Third, he spent 20 years with the San Diego Padres as a scout, and later in their ticket office. He had a long career playing ball in Canada. He played basketball in college before entering the military then later earned numerous degrees.
He was ordained as a Jesuit priest in 1968 and served on missions to the Native American community but later left the priesthood to marry. He taught and coached in high schools, founded the San Diego St. Patrick’s Day Parade, served on numerous charitable group boards, co-owned a restaurant and was very active in local history groups.
