Biographical Information[edit]

Tom McNamara is Scouting Director of the Seattle Mariners.

McNamara stole 71 bases in college in 1988, a school record. He was undrafted but played for the 1988 Bellingham Mariners and hit .224/.323/.245 in 50 games. He stole four bases in eight tries and scored 13 runs. He fielded .912 at shortstop. He then became a coach at Rockland Community College.

McNamara was an area scout for the Seattle Mariners from 1994-2000, signing Brian Sweeney and Kevin Gryboski. He then spent two seasons as an area scout for the Milwaukee Brewers, signing Prince Fielder. From 2003-2007, he was a pro scout for the Brewers. In 2008, he was their East Coast cross checker.

In November 2008, McNamara replaced Bob Fontaine as Seattle's Scouting Director, a position he still held in 2013.
