Biographical Information[edit]

Tom McMillan was a minor league outfielder and college coach before becoming a United States congressman.

McMillan entered the University of South Carolina in 1908. He was captain of the baseball team in his senior year. While in college, he also played in the minor leagues. His last season came in 1914 when he batted .248 in 117 games for the Charleston Sea Gulls of the South Atlantic League.

After his minor league career, he opened a law practice in Charleston. He also was head baseball coach of The Citadel in 1916 and then again in 1919.

From 1916 to 1924, he was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives. In 1924, he was elected to the United State House of Representatives. The Democrat served until his death in 1939.
