Tom McEwen was a sportswriter. After serving as a tank and platoon commander in World War II, he served 33 years as sports editor of the Tampa Tribune, expanding their staff from 3 to 63 during his time. He was named Sportswriter of the year in Florida 19 times and won the Red Smith Award in 1993. He also served as Executive Director of the New York Yankee Alumni Association.
