Biographical Information

Tom Lipari pitched in the minors.

Tom was picked by the Chicago Cubs in the 14th round of the 1998 amateur draft but did not sign. He became the first University of New Orleans pitcher to throw a nine-inning no-hitter, doing so against Southern Mississippi as a junior. His senior year, he was 6-6 with a 3.21 ERA and 113 strikeouts in 104 innings. Undrafted at that point, he signed with the San Diego Padres.

In the summer of 2002, Lipari was with the Eugene Emeralds (2-0, 2.66, 52 K in 40 2/3 IP) and Fort Wayne Wizards (1-1, 1.90, 27 K in 23 2/3 IP). In 2003, he was with Fort Wayne (7-6, 2.52) and the Lake Elsinore Storm (0-4, 6.32, .339 opponent average). Had he qualified, he would have been 7th in the Midwest League in ERA, just ahead of Joe Blanton. He ended his Organized Baseball career with the 2004 Salem Avalanche, going 0-1 with a 6.86 ERA and 2 WHIP. Moving on to the independent leagues, Lipari went 8-6 with a 3.77 ERA for the 2005 Sioux City Explorers then 6-8 with a 4.77 ERA for the same club in 2006.

Even while he was still playing, Lipari was beginning to coach college baseball in the winters and springs. Lipari was pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Morningside College from 2005-2007. coached for Michigan State University in 2007-2008 and was pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Youngstown State University in 2009-2010. In 2011, he joined the University of Pittsburgh as pitching coach.
