Biographical Information[edit]

Tom Lepperd worked as an American League umpire between 1984 and 1986, filling in for regular umpires who were injured or on vacation. He worked a total of 78 games over the three season.

He was a math teacher at Evanston Township High School for three years before becoming an umpire. He started working in the Midwest League in 1975, moved up to the Eastern League in 1976 and was on the staff of the American Association (from 1978 to 1986). He was in the latter role when he was called up to give the regular umpires a hand. He was never promoted to the league's permanent umpiring staff however. He did join the Umpire Development Program in 1987 and remained there until 1997, then joined the National League umpiring staff. In 2000, he joined the Major League Baseball umpiring staff and has served as Director of Umpire Administration and as Umpire Supervisor.
