Biographical Information[edit]
Tom Hart played catcher and outfield early in the season for the Washington Statesmen in 1891 Statestmen, the last year of the American Association as a major league. The team's manager for the first eleven games was a former catcher, Sam Trott, but then Pop Snyder, another former catcher, took over as manager. Hart's last game was the team's 21st of the season, which the Statesmen lost 14-2, giving them a record of 4-17 for the season thus far. Some changes clearly had to be made, and it was Tom's last major league game. Pete Lohman became the most utilized backup catcher on the team; like Hart, 1891 was Lohman's only year in the majors.
