Biographical Information[edit]

Todd Provence played in the Toronto Blue Jays system from 1984 to 1990. He was taken by the club as a pitcher in the 5th round of the 1984 amateur draft, a few picks after catcher Dan Walters and a few ahead of pitcher Mike Raczka. He began his professional career at 18 years old.

After a ho-hum initial campaign, he went 11-9 with a 2.84 ERA in 28 games (26 starts) for the Florence Blue Jays in 1985. The next year, he had a 6-10 record despite a 3.39 ERA in 27 games (18 starts) for the Ventura County Gulls. Moving to the bullpen full-time in 1987, he went 6-13 with a 4.05 ERA in 58 games for the Knoxville Blue Jays. He had more walks (44) than strikeouts (39) and tied Jose Mesa for the Southern League lead in losses; he also led the league in appearances. He was 27-37, 3.55 in 125 games (56 starts) overall.

He moved to the field starting in 1988 and remained there for the rest of his career. He played 113 games at first base, 105 in the outfield at 14 at third base, hitting .221/.321/.371 with 23 home runs, 92 RBI, 24 stolen bases and 304 strikeouts in 376 games. Perhaps his best campaign at the dish was his last, when he hit slashed .230/.320/.376 with 11 home runs, 44 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 117 games between two clubs.
