Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Thomas Szapucki took one for the team in his major league debut for the New York Mets on June 30, 2021. The Mets were already trailing the Atlanta Braves, 10-2, with one out in the 4th, after starting pitcher David Peterson and reliever Sean Reid-Foley had both been torched. He managed to get out of the inning by allowing just one more run, on a ground out, but ended up being charged with 6 runs, all earned, in 3 2/3 innings before manager Luis Rojas asked OF Albert Almora Jr. to mop up in the 8th; the mystery pitcher allowed another 3 runs as the Mets lost the game, 20-2.
