Biographical Information

Pitcher Thomas Hodges played in the Pittsburgh Pirates system in 1947 and 1948.

He served in the Naval Construction Battalion in World War II. Pitching for the Riverside Dons in 1947, he went 17-9 with a 19 complete games and a 4.13 ERA in 33 appearances. In 220 innings, he allowed 219 hits, 158 runs (57 of which were unearned) and 140 walks while striking out 150 batters. He led the Sunset League in walks (by 27), tied for the league in hit by pitch (nine) and wild pitches (15) and finished sixth in victories. He was 2-7 with a 6.81 ERA in 16 games (11 starts) for the Waco Pirates in 1948.

Overall, he was 19-16 with a 4.81 ERA in 49 appearances in his two-year career. He also spent some time as an outfielder, hitting .266 with three home runs in 173 at-bats.
