Biographical Information[edit]
Tetsuto Tomabechi played for the Hiroshima Carp for a couple years.
Tomabechi was a 6th-round pick of the Carp in the 1999 NPB draft. He became the first Carp rookie fresh from high school to win a game in 34 years, since Manabu Kitabeppu. He finished the season 2-3 with a 5.09 ERA in 23 games in 2000. He did not appear for the big club in 2001, then had a 5-4, 4.77 record in 21 games in 2002. Overall, he had gone 7-6 with a 4.76 ERA in 44 NPB games (8 starts). He had allowed a .256 average and 52 walks in 104 innings while fanning 102. Offensively, he had 1 hit and 11 strikeouts in 18 at-bats, getting his lone hit against Kenta Asakura. He also pitched for the Japanese national team in the 2002 Intercontinental Cup, going 1-0 with a 1.04 ERA. He struck out 12 and walked 5 in 8 2/3 IP. Afterwards, injuries hampered his career and the Carp finally let him go at the end of 2006.
