Biographical Information[edit]

Tetsuji Mende pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for four years.

Mende was taken by the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the 4th round of the 1998 NPB draft after some time in the industrial leagues. He allowed 17 walks and 11 runs in 12 1/3 IP as a rookie in 1999 and was 0-1 with a save and 7.17 ERA in a career-high 20 games in 2000; he walked 27 and fanned only 11 in 21 1/3 IP. He was then traded with Koji Hirashita and Hiroki Sakai to the Hanshin Tigers for Hirotoshi Kitagawa, Toshiro Yufune and Kazuharu Yamazaki. He allowed four runs in four innings in 2001 (although only one was earned) and four runs in 5 2/3 IP in 2002 to end his career.

He had gone 0-1 with a save and a 6.85 ERA in 39 NPB games (two starts). He walked 55 in 43 1/3 IP while allowing 44 hits and striking out 25.
