January 28: Today's featured birthday is that of Stu Pederson, who turns 65.
- 1933 - Joe Hauser of the Minneapolis Millers hits three home runs to give him 65 on the year, setting a new Organized Baseball record. Hauser will finish the year with 69.
- 1978 - Doe Boyland strikes out in his first at-bat - while sitting on the bench. Down 1-2 in the count, he is pinch-hit for by Rennie Stennett, who takes strike three.
- 1991 - Shane Turner and Tommy Shields both play all nine positions for the Rochester Red Wings in their season finale.
- 1993 - Jim Abbott (pictured), who was born without a right hand, no-hits the Indians as his Yankees win, 4-0.
- 1999 - The Reds hit a National League record nine home runs as Eddie Taubensee, Aaron Boone, Dmitri Young, Jeffrey Hammonds, Greg Vaughn, Pokey Reese, Brian Johnson and Mark Lewis all go deep; Taubensee does it twice.
