- 1936 - Eiji Sawamura throws the first no-hitter in Nippon Pro Baseball history.
- 1965 - Satchel Paige starts a game at age 59, becoming the oldest player in major league history. Paige tosses 3 shutout innings, allowing one hit, in his first major league game in 12 years.
- 1974 - Dr. Frank Jobe repairs Tommy John's damaged ulnar collateral ligament in an innovative procedure that will become known as Tommy John surgery. The pitcher, whose career was expected to be over, will win 164 more games.
- 1986 - For the first time, a pennant is clinched by a no-hitter, as Mike Scott (pictured) does the trick to give the Astros the NL West Division title.
- 2003 - Carlos Delgado hits four home runs in a game, becoming only the fifth American League player to accomplish the feat.
