• 1957 - Hank Aaron wins a tight three-way race for the 1957 National League MVP Award, beating out Stan Musial, 239 points to 230. Red Schoendienst gets 221.
• 1996 - Juan Gonzalez edges Alex Rodriguez for the 1996 American League MVP Award by three votes.
• 1999 - The Australian national team wins its first major international competition when they beat the Cuban national team, 4-3, in 11 innings in the Gold Medal game of the 1999 Intercontinental Cup. Dave Nilsson goes 0 for 4 in the game but is named tourney MVP thanks to 11 RBI.
• 2005 - Alex Rodriguez (pictured) outpolls David Ortiz, 331-307 points, for the 2005 American League MVP Award.
