- 1962 - The Professional Baseball Rules Committee votes 8-1 against allowing the Pacific Coast League to implement a DH rule. Seven years later, the DH will be introduced to Organized Baseball.
- 1995 - A ruling by Judge Sonia Sotomayor in a U.S. District court ends the longest strike in baseball history.
- 1996 - The first March Opening Day in Major League Baseball history takes place. Randy Johnson (pictured) fans 14 White Sox and four relievers tack on seven more strikeouts in a 3-2, 12-inning win by the Mariners.
- 1998 - The expansion Tampa Bay Devil Rays lose the first game in club history. Wade Boggs hits the franchise's first homer while Wilson Alvarez takes the defeat in a 11-7 contest.
- 1998 - Charles Johnson has his record run of 172 games at catcher without an error end. He hits a three-run homer to give the Marlins the win, which will be their only one in their first 11 games of the year.
