November 16: Today's featured birthday is that of Hector Fajardo, who turns 54.
- 1880 - John Ward pitches the second perfect game in the National League in six days. It will be 84 years until the next one.
- 1915 - Zip Zabel sets the all-time major league record for innings pitched in relief in a game, with 18 1/3. He wins 4-3 after entering the game in the 1st inning.
- 1936 - Red Ruffing has ten total bases, a record for an American League pitcher. Ruffing homers twice in a 15-4 rout of the Indians.
- 1943 - Joe Cronin (pictured) hits three-run homers as a pinch-hitter in both ends of a doubleheader, the first time in major league history a pinch-hitter had gone deep in both parts of a twin bill.
- 1960 - Ted Williams becomes the fourth member of the 500 home run club, going deep against Wynn Hawkins. He joins Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx and Mel Ott; Ott is the only one who did not play for the Boston Red Sox.
