April 22: Today's featured birthday is that of Dan O'Brien, who turns 70.
- 1911 - The Pittsburgh Pirates purchase the contract of P Marty O'Toole from the St. Paul Saints for $22,500, a record at the time.
- 1941 - Dick Wakefield becomes the first bonus baby in baseball, signing for $52,000 and a new car.
- 1960 - Ted Williams, not noted for his speed, steals a base for the fourth straight decade, the first major leaguer to do so. It will be 40 years until Rickey Henderson becomes the second.
- 1963 - 44-year-old Diomedes Olivo tosses a no-hitter for the Atlanta Crackers, becoming the oldest pitcher in Organized Baseball records to throw a no-no.
- 1993 - Greg Gagne (pictured) homers for the 10,000th hit in Tiger Stadium, the first major league park to have witnessed so many.
