- 1916 - The Cincinnati Reds acquire three future Hall of Famers in a trade with the New York Giants. They get Bill McKechnie, Christy Mathewson and Edd Roush for Buck Herzog and Red Killefer. Matty will only pitch one game for the Reds and McKechnie will enter the Hall as a manager, but Roush will star for them.
- 1944 - Nels Potter is suspended for ten games for allegedly throwing a spitball, the first player to be so punished.
- 1965 - Mel Stottlemyre (pictured) hits an inside-the-park grand slam against Bill Monbouquette. It had been 55 years since a pitcher last hit an inside-the-park grand slam.
- 1969 - Gaylord Perry hits a home run 20 minutes after Neil Armstrong sets foot on the moon, fulfilling Alvin Dark's 1968 prophesy that "They'll put a man on the moon before [Perry] hits a home run."
- 1976 - Hank Aaron homers against Dick Drago. It is his 755th (and last) circuit clout in the big leagues.
