- 1903 - A possibly drunk Ed Delahanty is evicted from the train he is riding for threatening riders with a razor. He either falls or jumps off a bridge over Niagara Falls, killing the superstar at age 35.
- 1941 - Joe DiMaggio hits safely for the 45th straight game, breaking Wee Willie Keeler's major league record.
- 1963 - Juan Marichal and Warren Spahn trade goose eggs for 15 innings before a Willie Mays solo homer in the 16th ends one of the greatest pitching duels ever.
- 2002 - A record 62 home runs are swatted in the major leagues on this date.
- 2005 - Kenny Rogers (pictured) is suspended for 20 days and fined $50,000 for his attack on a cameraman.
