- 1952 - Hoyt Wilhelm homers in his first major league at-bat in a 9-5 win for the New York Giants. In 1,070 games in the majors, he will never homer again.
- 1964 - Ken Johnson becomes the first pitcher in major league history to lose a no-hitter. He keeps the Cincinnati Reds hitless but a crucial error by Nellie Fox costs Houston the contest.
- 1978 - Joe Morgan (pictured) ends a 91-game run of error-free play, having set a new major league record for consecutive games without an error at second base.
- 1999 - Fernando Tatis becomes the first major leaguer to hit two grand slams in one inning. He hits both of the shots off Chan Ho Park.
- 2003 - Leon Lee is hired to replace Hiromichi Ishige as manager of the Orix BlueWave and becomes the first black manager in Nippon Pro Baseball history.
