Biographical Information[edit]
Tanner Swanson played high school and college baseball, and after graduating from Central Washington University with a degree in physical education and school health, became a teacher and baseball coach at Sultan Senior High School in 2007. In 2009, he became an assistant coach at Everett Community College then joined his alma mater for one season in 2010, and returned to another of his former schools, Green River Community College, as head baseball coach in 2010. From 2012 to 2017, he was at the University of Washington where he was a graduate manager, briefly director of baseball operations, and a volunteer assistant coach the last five years there. During that time, he founded "D1 Catching", a private coaching firm specialized in training catchers.
In 2017, he became a full-time assistant coach at Santa Clara University. That November, he got his first job in organized baseball when he was hired by the Minnesota Twins as the minor league catching coordinator. Two years later, in 2020 the New York Yankees added him to their major league coaching staff as quality control coach and catching coordinator.
