Talk:Oakland Athletics
Am I wrong that there was a time (and I believe that it continued until the Finley years ended) that Oakland was officially not the "Athletics" and was officially the "A's"? There have been times that the two have been synonymous, but Charlie O. definitely didn't see it that way.
Shouldn't that be reflected on the main site's team listings (as the "Philadelphia Blue Jays" are)? And be written of here?
I mean, not that I'm wrong, if I am, but that the team was officially called that, if it was.
Just a heads up: Oakland Coliseum etc. has been renamed the Overstock.com Coliseum aka O.co Coliseum. This is what it says according to Wikipedia as well as some of the ticket websites. There is a brief article on ballparkdigest.com. The website continues to refer to it as Oakland Coliseum. I did find an article about the naming rights and will post the link for you. - Yuriy 43
I've made a redirect from the new name to the Oakland Coliseum, so it's not a red link anymore. On the A's versus Athletics question, it was really another of Charlie Finley's peculiar ideas. The team was always Athletics, but he used the "A's" as much as possible, thinking the official name was too old-fashioned. We have redirects from every season page from the 2011 A's eg to the 2011 Athletics. --Philippe 14:59, 31 August 2011 (EDT)
