Talk:Mike Young

From BR Bullpen

Young was still active in 1989. Who was managing the Bluefield Orioles? Johnson & Wolff and the 1990 Almanac both list Mike Young. Is there another? --Jeff 00:45, 22 October 2007 (EDT)

There are numerous Mike Youngs in baseball -

Pitcher Mike G. Young, 1969-1974, reached AA

Pitcher Mike L. Young, 1970, A ball

Pitcher Mike Young, 1986-1991, reached AA (also apparently resurfaced in the indie leagues later)

There were also a couple Mike Youngs from the 50s and 60s, but both had short careers. I think it's an open question.

It is almost certain that the Mike Young who managed Bluefield in 1989 and the one who managed Wausau in 1990 is one person (same organization, two consercutive years) but is not this Mike Young, as he played a full season between the majors and minors in 1989 (and then went to Japan ?). I'm crediting those to an as yet unknown Mike Young (minors). Now, the question is who is the Mike Young who managed at two stops in the Indians organization a few years later ? Does anyone have clear evidence one way or another ? For now I'm crediting those two years to the Mike Young who played in the majors for Baltimore and Cleveland. --Philippe 13:25, 14 November 2007 (EST)

Maybe we can contact the Indian or Oriole organizations about this? They must have old Media Guides detailing their minor league managers' careers. - --Mischa 13:33, 14 November 2007 (EST)

Eureka ! I found him, and it's a fascinating story. See Mike Young (manager). --Philippe 03:43, 17 November 2007 (EST)

Grerat job, Philippe. Interesting guy! - --Mischa 13:03, 18 November 2007 (EST)
