The infobox is what the person infobox should look like (it was just expanded and subst). I am thinking that the playing career (and manager and umpire section) might be better of not being part of the template as it is currently but more like it is here. A chronological list of league systems played in (so if under contract with a MLB club but playing in Triple-A, the system would still be listed as Organized Baseball or whatever the encompassing term for MLB and MiLB is; the same thing for the NPB and its farm leagues). There are a few other mock-ups here, some which list clubs as well. A positive aspect of this would be that the clubs/leagues are listed chronologically instead of alphabetically; however since the categories for X players, X managers, and X umpires would no longer be automatically generated a bit more onus would be put on the editor to add the appropriate categories. --MichaelEng (talk) 19:21, 11 June 2007 (EDT)

I think it's no problem to add categories instead of having them generated automatically, as that's what we've been doing all along. My only question is in terms of formatting as things like demographics and schooling are now listed in a separate box instead of at the top of the page as is the case for the other 20,000 or so player pages. - --Mischa 19:25, 11 June 2007 (EDT)

The header section that we use now is essentially the same thing (it has always been separate from the "Body") just moved to the right so the reader can get into the article's body quicker. The schools, teams played for, probably birthplace ("X is an Y pitcher who Z") should all go into the main body in some form. --MichaelEng (talk) 19:37, 11 June 2007 (EDT)

My concern is just that it hurts the uniformity to have two separate "styles", that's all. It would be a pain to change all the existing pages to this style. - --Mischa 19:38, 11 June 2007 (EDT)

I agree, but the only way to avoid that to not change anything. Still the benefits for having the information in templates, namely allowing for microdata to be included enabling automatic parsing, outweigh the current format of having it in the text of the article. If we were to change it would be a gradual, likely taking months, and would require alot of cooperation with Admin (as he would need to query the database). To alleviate the concern of the different styles, I have been only changing for select players and none of the MLB players. --MichaelEng (talk) 16:35, 15 June 2007 (EDT)

Sounds good, given the benefits. I haven't use the infoboxes yet as I'm waiting for the kinks to be worked out. - --Mischa 17:07, 15 June 2007 (EDT)
