Talk:Gene Hassell
Its funny, there seems to be a number of these minor league managers who were good OBP guys. It was probably not as recognizable at the time as a high AVG would have been. --Jeff 19:25, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
I don't see how a guy like Hassell would have played so long if the OBP skills weren't recognized somewhat. Then again, .300 with speed draws attention too. - --Mischa 19:31, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
I just wish I had more Guides from this period. For the ones I have, I can flesh out Hassell's amazing walk, SB, R and OBP totals, but these aren't reflected in Doyle's DB, which only covers Triple Crown stats. - --Mischa 19:36, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
I only have the Guides back to 69, sorry. --Jeff 19:37, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
I go a little further - 1967-2007 (Guide or Almanac or Almanac-like publication by Baseball America) plus 1945, 1947, 1951, 1953, 1954 and 1958. In another 5-10 years, I hope to at least have everything post-WWII but it gets a lot pricier as you go back. - --Mischa 19:41, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
