Talk:Gene Cook

From BR Bullpen

Two things - 1) FR lists his birth as 1934. 2) MASH ran on TV from 1972 to 1983, and Cook was Toledo GM starting in 1978. So, did Farr not start wearing the Mud Hens gear until the 6th or 7th season, or was that a bit of hyperbole? --Jeff 09:42, 2 March 2009 (EST)

I'll look into the MASH thing as for that and the birthdate I was working off of this page http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/documents/2008/01/28/342619/1/Cook.pdf Not by any means exact dates but off the top of my head I only remember Klinger wearing it with Col. Potter and not Col. Blake. --Biggtone23 17:02, 2 March 2009 (EST)

This is from the Mud Hens offical site Mud Hens Corporal Maxwell Klinger Native Toledoan Jamie Farr portrayed this lovable character on the hit television show M*A*S*H. During the run of the show, former Mud Hens General Manager Gene Cook sent a care package of Mud Hens items to Max Klinger and the rest is history. As Klinger and other characters began to wear Mud Hens hats, jerseys, etc. souvenir sales started to skyrocket. Mr. Farr hosts his annual LPGA golf tournament in Sylvania, Ohio and has been seen at many Mud Hens game over the years.

The SSDI has him in 1932 also.

The birthdate isn't surprising. Lots of baseball players have in the past and not so distant past shaved a few years off. Thee Lions probably thought he was born in 1934. --Jeff 21:52, 2 March 2009 (EST)
