Do you have a category better than Hispanic League Player?

He's already listed as a minor league player, which is the appropriate category for the Mexican League. - --Mischa 21:22, 25 Mar 2006 (EST)
I don't think the Mexican League became part of OB until 1952 or so --- certainly the Jorge Pascal Mexican League was not a minor league and I don't think the 1940 version was either - it is certainly not recognized in the Guides. --Ron 21:25, 25 Mar 2006 (EST)
This may be a dumb question, but..... We list the Mexican League as a minor league. How is it viewed in Mexico? Is it the league, or is MLB still viewed as the best? --Just me 21:26, 25 Mar 2006 (EST)
According to Lloyd Johnson's Encyclopedia of Minor League Baseball the Mexican League was an Independent League from 1940-1954. My only contact in Mexico is a good friend Tomas Bowen (nee Thomas Raguet) who lives in Poza Rica in southern Mexico. According to him, they are all big MLB fans down there and they can name off the players just as well as any of us can - the Mexican League also has status there, but not much more than here. --Ron 21:32, 25 Mar 2006 (EST)
If we're counting it as an independent, then it would also be listed as a minor league like the modern Northern League or Frontier League. It also makes it easier to categorize Liga alumni instead of drawing a cut-off between Organized Baseball and non-OB times. - --Mischa 21:39, 25 Mar 2006 (EST)
Makes sense to me but distasteful to the purist. --Ron 22:12, 25 Mar 2006 (EST)
Also I think we don't want to jeopardize Jackie Robinson's claim to being the first black in modern times in OB. --Ron 22:28, 25 Mar 2006 (EST)
