Talk:Armando Marsans
Why is Armando listed as a Negro Leaguer?
He was a white Cuban who played in the Cuban League, which was integrated. The fact that he was a white guy is clear enough from the fact that he played in Cincinnati in 1911 when his better teammates, like Jose Mendez, were forced to play in Cuba or the Negro Leagues (or both).
Either he should be removed from the "Negro Leaguers", or else another category for "Cuban Leaguers" should be added.
He's listed as a Negro Leaguer because he played in the Negro Leagues. A Cuban team played in the then-informal Negro Leagues in 1905 and Marsans and Rafael Almeida both appeared on the team. Other light-skinned Cubans appeared throughout Negro League history, some of whom also played in the majors (ex. Mike Gonzalez, Mike Herrera, Pedro Dibut). If we want a separate Cuban League section, that's fine by me, but we shouldn't deny that the Negro Leagues were inegrated, letting in players white enough to play in the majors.
