Talk:Alex Rodríguez
Does anyone really call him Slappy McBluelips? I deleted that line from the page. --Pti 16:52, 28 Sep 2005 (EDT)
unpopularity[edit]
People don't seem to like this guy for some reason. No steroids, no wife beating, no off-field problems, doesn't complain, great player but everyone hates him. We could mention this on the page but all previous attempts have been non-neutral. --Pti 11:51, 11 Oct 2005 (EDT)
Well, maybe not so true for the Roids now, but he's still highly unpopular in 2010. I don't like the guy simply because of the steroids... Oaktree_b 19:42, 4 August 2010 (EDT)
Unpopularity[edit]
The unpopularity probably stems from his high salary. He never had this reputation with Seattle, as far as I can recall. You can add a comment to that effect - Mischa
Unpopularity[edit]
It's a darn shame that negative comments are said about A-Rod due to his being a gentleman while being a superstar in baseball. Granted ... there are comments that he may be stand-offish with fans, the general public, or that he wants to please everyone; but Alex is still growing while being a quarter-billionaire in the making! The fact that he is not "white" and while he may have a difficult time balancing his roots/culture (Dom. Rep.) and his birthplace (USA) perhaps has him managing a balncing act experienced with Americans who share equally valuable cultures that may not be experienced by others. A-Rod is disliked for many reasons: some logical {jealousy about his money and/or talents} and some that are to psychologically deep to go further here {racism or incomptence}. Either way, A-Rod will be in the hall of fame and deservedly so. My advice to him: stop trying to please everyone, enjoy the game before it becomes beyond his physical abilities, and continue to be an ambassador to the game.
love[edit]
Class Envy[edit]
Class envy is an unfortunate part of American culture -- going back to the revolution against royalty that got us started and perpetuated by the media and its middle class reporters. Envy of the rich by Americans is particularly idiosyncratic when one considers that, compared to the rest of the world, we are similarly hated for this same reason. Especially by the non-Israeli mideasterners. --Ron the nonwealthy Republican 18:00, 18 May 2006 (EDT)
Evil middle class[edit]
Right, Ron, the middle class is the root of jealousy and hatred in this country. I'm also sorry that our country is so full of Christians who believe that the love of money is the root of all evil and that it is nearly impossible for rich people to get into heaven. America is just a rotten place in general, I guess. - --Mischa 12:51, 19 May 2006 (EDT)
2 things: 1) Slappy McBluelips (the top of this page) sponsors A-Rod's BR page. 2) Is it a coincidence that A-Rod started getting hit by pitch in double digits when he signed the big contract with Texas? --Just me 12:58, 19 May 2006 (EDT)
Question[edit]
How do we check all these "official sites" that are linked to from various pages? - --Mischa 20:39, 14 February 2008 (EST)
Record Pace[edit]
Does someone want to update that record pace section now that the stats are 3 years old? Or should we just delete it? --Biggtone23 13:05, 3 December 2008 (EST)
Do we need the verbatim account of the Katie Couric interview? A summary would suffice IMO . - --Mischa 12:14, 10 February 2009 (EST)
I've done that. There was really too much in that section. --Philippe 19:12, 8 May 2009 (EDT)
