Talk:2011 College World Series

From BR Bullpen

Sources list both Vanderbilt and California as the 6th seed. Who is #5? I can't find any source that lists all the seeds, so was going from assorted news articles. - --Mischa 10:30, 23 June 2011 (EDT)

Vandy is the national #6 seed. Cal was the #3 seed in its Regional, which would put it in the 20s nationally. The other 7 teams were all #1 seeds in their respective Regionals. The national seeds for the tournament: 1 VA, 2 FL, 3 NC, 4 SC, 5 FSU, 6 Vandy, 7 TX, 8 Rice. Florida St, and Rice were the only 2 not to make the CWS. --Jeff 10:36, 23 June 2011 (EDT)

Oh, I thought the teams were seeded 1-8 for the Series. This Dallas News article lists Cal as the 6 seed. Where is that ranking from? - --Mischa 10:40, 23 June 2011 (EDT)

The NCAA [1] --Jeff 10:50, 23 June 2011 (EDT)

So, the seeds we should have on our page are the national ones? I'm really confused now. - --Mischa 11:05, 23 June 2011 (EDT)

On past CWS pages, the Regional seed was used. Cal was a 3 seed, the other seven teams were 1 seeds. --Jeff 22:11, 23 June 2011 (EDT)

The All-Tournament team is all SEC. --Jeff 23:41, 29 June 2011 (EDT)

Are there informal rankings of the best college conferences? SEC, ACC, Pac-10 are the three that come to my mind as the elite ones. Interesting how it varies by sport - in basketball, the Big East is the best, but in baseball, they're merely good, producing first-round picks and major leaguers regularly but not making it to the Series. - --Mischa 09:07, 30 June 2011 (EDT)

In baseball, geography has historically been a huge factor. Rarely do teams outside the "sun belt" dominate the sport. So the southern and western teams with their better weather have always had an advantage. --Jeff 09:38, 30 June 2011 (EDT)
