Talk:2008 Olympics (Rosters)

From BR Bullpen

The Dutch team has released their prospective list of 42 players. Almost all have played for the team in the past and have pages here - see http://www.mister-baseball.com/eenhoorns-42-candidates-for-olympic-games/

Here is the Cuban preliminary roster of 43: http://www.baseballdecuba.com/EngnewsContainer.asp?id=723

We have bios of about half of these guys.

Taiwan has released a preliminary list of 60: [http://taiwanbaseball.blogspot.com/2008/05/60-man-preliminary-nt-training-roster.html

We have bios of about a third to a half of these guys I think.

Dutch team officially announced. I don't think I'll get it all wikified tonight. - --Mischa 21:38, 13 July 2008 (EDT)

Canadian team has been announced. Man, we're in good shape - 45 of 48 players from the first two teams have BR Bullpen pages as do 6 of the 9 coaches/managers. I think we'll slip a bit with the other teams but overall, we're doing a-ok so far. - --Mischa 21:47, 14 July 2008 (EDT)

Korean roster announced. We have 67 of 72 players so far. - --Mischa 12:03, 16 July 2008 (EDT)

Taiwan roster announced. We're at 86 out of 96. Much better than I would have guessed. - --Mischa 12:44, 16 July 2008 (EDT)

USA roster announced. We take a bit of a slip and go down to 102 out of 123. We should have bios up for 95% of the players by the start of the Olympics, I think. - --Mischa 19:32, 16 July 2008 (EDT)

Correction - 110 out of 123. We should have at least half the Chinese, Cuban and Japanese players as well so if I get two a day, we should be more or less ready. - --Mischa 20:19, 16 July 2008 (EDT)

128 of 147 with the addition of Japan. We have stubs up for 7 of those Americans. - --Mischa 08:36, 17 July 2008 (EDT)

All the work you've put into international players is showing up on this page Mischa. --Jeff 21:05, 17 July 2008 (EDT)

Thanks. I don't want to be arrogant at all but it does give me some pride that I've done a good enough job covering international baseball. - --Mischa 21:06, 17 July 2008 (EDT)

China, as expected, is our weak spot with only 9 players with BR Bullpen pages. I couldn't translate a couple names; I hope I got all the rest right. Thankfully, the Chinese national team doesn't have the same turnover rate as some other countries so a quick look at recent rosters filled a lot of the question marks. - --Mischa 12:15, 18 July 2008 (EDT)

Not counting China, 133 of 147. Cuba has to announce soon. - --Mischa 14:08, 20 July 2008 (EDT)

Canada, USA: Pages for everyone. Taiwan, Netherlands: Missing 1. Japan: 2. South Korea: 3. We're closing in on 100% - --Mischa 21:34, 20 July 2008 (EDT)

South Korea is done too. Japan, Taiwan and the Netherlands each need one. Compare that with Wikipedia's pathetic showing where half of many of these teams, even Canada, lack pages. - --Mischa 09:07, 22 July 2008 (EDT)

6 teams done. Only China and Cuba are incomplete and Cuba hasn't released their roster yet. - --Mischa 20:51, 22 July 2008 (EDT)

Cuba's roster was released. We have 18 of 24 players. - --Mischa 09:08, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

Two days until the Olympics. Not counting China, we're done. We are still missing 10 Chinese players - Wiki Baseball, the best Chinese source I've found for Chinese national team player information, only has a couple of these so we probably won't hit 100%. - --Mischa 12:34, 6 August 2008 (EDT)
