Talk:1941 in the Negro Leagues

From BR Bullpen

We should have better information on the standings than this. The NNL and NAL together show an aggregate record of 191-158, or .547. Obviously, the total won-lost records for the two leagues should be in balance at .500. It's one of the curses of early Negro Leagues research that they didn't, but accurate, balanced standings should be available somewhere. Does anyone know how many other leagues/seasons are out of whack like this? -- Couillaud 11:51, 8 November 2007 (EST) --

I didn't check any of them. Michael Eng posted all of them at one time. - --Mischa 12:06, 8 November 2007 (EST)

Well, I know that the numbers listed in The Negro Leagues Book are based mostly on the "official" standings that were reported in newspapers without any proofreading, and thereby carried many of the errors over. It's one of my pet peeves only a handful of Negro Leagues seasons balance.
Replay Games published the 1923 standings as I had compiled them in the 1923 Negro National League Yearbook, and included both the original "official" standings plus the Negro League Book's listing for comparison. I know that Gary Ashwill has a list of several seasons' standings as well. Perhaps we should such research as the standard where available. I don't have it at hand at this moment, but I'll make changes where I can.
