Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Takeru Furumoto played professionally in Japan from 2013 to 2017. He was drafted by the Chunichi Dragonsin the third round of 2012 NPB draft. All of his career was spent in ni-gun, the Japanese minor leagues, with the Dragons affiliate in the Western League except for 16 games for the top squad in 2014. He never managed to hit enough in the minors to warrant a longer look by the senior team, as he batted.141 in 42 games in his first season, 2013, and while he improved upon that, his top average was only .257 in 91 games in 2016. he only had mediocre power, with a career slugging percentage of .331 to go along with batting .224 in 341 professional games.

In his brief stay in the major league Central League in 2014, he went 3 for 18, mainly as a pinch-hitter, only appearing in 3 games in the outfield. He did take part in one historic game on September 5th, when pitcher Masahiro Yamamoto set a slew of record by starting the game 35 days after his 49th birthday. Furumotu, who was born after Yamamoto had established himself as a regular in Japan, batted for him after he had pitched five innings in a 6-0 blanking of the Hanshin Tigers shared among four Dragons pitchers. The game was only two days after Furumoto's debut with Chunichi, which had come on September 3rd. Ironically, Yamamoto's career outlasted him, as he returned to pitch one final game at age 50 the following season.

Furumoto was a star college player at Ryukoku University but exeperienced a big setback when he fouled a ball into his eye, breaking his eye-socket during his senior season. He was released by Chunichi following the 2017 season, which brought his professional career to an end. He played in Japan's adult leagues after that.
