Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher T.J. Oakes played in the Colorado Rockies system in 2012 and 2013.

He was originally drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 41st round of the 2011 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. He did ink a contract after being taken by the Rockies in the 11th round of the 2012 amateur draft.

He pitched for the Tri-City Dust Devils that first year, going 1-2 with a 4.41 ERA in 11 starts. Between the Asheville Tourists and Modesto Nuts in 2013, he went 9-8 with a 4.31 ERA in 26 starts. Overall, he was 10-10 with a 4.34 ERA in 37 starts.

Oakes became pitching coach at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota in 2016 [1], staying through 2021. He became head coach at University of Wisconsin-Superior for 2022.

His father, Todd Oakes, pitched in the San Francisco Giants minor league system (1983-1986), and coached in the Giants' chain (1987-1998) and for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers from 1999 until passing away in May 2016 [2]. Oakes' brother, Tyler, pitched in the minors in 2009 and became a pitching coach at North Dakota State University [3].
