In 1952 the Sweetwater Swatters of the Longhorn League were renamed the Sweetwater Braves. The independent club from Sweetwater, TX was managed by Alex Carrasquel (9-6, 5.07 on the mound) until July 24, when John F. Morris took over. They drew 37,060 fans, 7th in the 8-team league. The team boasted batting champ Charles Buck (.382/~.459/.536, 119 R, 20 triples) in the outfield; Buck edged Joe Bauman for the batting title by seven points. The team did not return in 1953.
