Suspended list
The suspended list is a list of players not allowed to take part in a games because they are serving a suspension, either one imposed by the league (e.g. for using a banned substance, or for an on-field incident) or by their team. In addition to being ineligible to play, players are not paid while on the list but remain the property of their team, which they can re-join after the suspension has been served. In the case of a free agent, the player can be signed while suspended, but cannot begin playing until the suspension has been served. In cases involving extended suspensions, players may be allowed to make a short rehabilitation stint at a lower level in order to be in game shape by the time the suspension ends.
