Biographical Information[edit]
Steve Whitaker was the regular right fielder for the New York Yankees in 1967. That year, Whitaker led all American League outfielders with 6 double plays. He played five years in the majors.
As a rookie in 1966, he drew notice when he slugged .491 on a team that slugged .374. He was two years younger than teammate Joe Pepitone.
He was the # 5 outfielder for the Seattle Pilots in 1969, a team made famous by Jim Bouton's book, Ball Four.
He is one of three major leaguers (through 2008) with the last name "Whitaker".
