Biographical Information[edit]
Steve Schott was co-owner of the Oakland Athletics from 1995 to 2005 with partner Ken Hoffman. The sale was completed on September 14, 1995, from the estate of Walter Haas; the sale agreement included a promise to keep the club in Oakland, CA. He retained a small share of the A's ownership after the club was sold to Lewis Wolff in 2005. It was during his tenure as owner that the Athletics hired long-time general manager Billy Beane. He appears as a character in the film Moneyball, based on the 2000 season.
He made his fortune in home-building and construction and other forms of real estate development. He attended college on a partial baseball scholarship and served in the military in the early 1960s.
