Biographical Information[edit]

Steve MacFarland was part of a trade involving two major leaguers in 2007, joining the San Francisco Giants chain.

MacFarland was 8-1 as a high school senior and 15-7 with a 4.76 ERA in college. The Pittsburgh Pirates took him in the 9th round of the 2006 amateur draft and assigned him to the Williamsport Crosscutters; he went 1-2 with a 3.04 ERA and allowed 16 hits in 23 2/3 IP while striking out 23 but walked 19. In 2007, he went 3-2 with a 4.80 ERA in 39 games for the Hickory Crawdads. The reliever fanned 69 in 65 2/3 IP but walked 48. He was included as a player to be named later in a trade with Rajai Davis to the San Francisco Giants for Matt Morris in late 2007.
