Biographical Information[edit]
Steve Hertz was up in the majors during 1964 as a 19-year-old with the Houston Colt .45's. He also played in the minors from 1964 to 1969.
Hertz was part of the youth movement of the Colt .45's and was one of many players under the age of 21 on the team.
He attended Miami High School where he was all-state, and eventually during off-seasons earned a degree at the University of Miami. Years later he earned a master's degree from Nova University.
After baseball Hertz launched a successful coaching career. As a high school coach he took Coral Park High School to a state championship in 1978 and had 300 victories at the high school level. He then coached at Miami Dade College in 1980 before moving to Miami Southridge High School from 1981-1985. He returned to Miami Dade from 1986-2010, winning more than two-thirds of his games. More recently, he managed the Tel Aviv Lightning in the Israel Baseball League.
