On February 10, 2018, Steve Geltz was suspended for 100 games for a third positive drug test. He had last pitched in the majors in 2016 and was on the AAA roster of the Philadelphia Phillies at the time. He never played professionally again after that suspension.

In 2015, pitching for the Tampa Bay Rays, he set a team record by retiring 32 consecutive batters over a string of 9 outings in June. He pitched 70 times that season, going 2-6, 3.74 with 2 saves in 67 1/3 innings. He had originally been signed as an amateur free agent by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2008 and reached the majors with the team in 2012. At the end of spring training in 2013, he was traded to the Rays in return for P Dane De La Rosa. He returned to the big leagues at the end of the 2014 season, and also pitched for the Rays for part of 2016.

Geltz was claimed off waivers by the Milwaukee Brewers at the end of the 2016 season, but was granted free agency shortly after that and spent the 2017 season in the organization of the Los Angeles Dodgers, going 2-2, 2.67 in 23 games for the Oklahoma City Dodgers.
