Biographical Information[edit]

"The Maroons have, in all likelihood, secured another first-class fielder in Behel, late of the Milwaukees. He is a first-class man in every respect, particularly in baserunning." - Sporting Life from July 8, 1885

Steve Behel played two seasons in the majors. Most of his at bats were with the 1886 New York Metropolitans, with whom he is listed as a regular although he appeared in only 59 of their 135 games. Along with appearing for Milwaukee in the majors, he also played for Milwaukee several seasons when they were a minor league team. Behel was born in Earlville, IL, 80 miles west of Chicago, in 1860. He lived a long life, dying in L.A. in 1945.
